Dahil Sa Iyo (Because of You)

This is one of the most well-known love songs in the Philippines. A favorite of Imelda Marcos, this song was the one she always performed for an audience. Mike Velarde composed the song in 1938. Lyrics are by Dominador Santiago.

Harana, the Filipino Serenade

A harana is a traditional Filipino serenade. The man is accompanied by his friends who back him up both vocally and psychologically. At first, the woman’s window is closed. The man calls out to her and if she’s interested, she’ll open her window.
