The particular Filipino nightmare called bangungot is the type in which you suddenly wake up in the middle of the night and can’t move a muscle. Some people refer to it as sleep paralysis. The result may be death! In fact, it is scientifically known as Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome (SUDS) or Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome (SUNDS). Young Filipino males are more susceptible to bangungot.
