Filipino dishes called ulam are expected to be eaten with kanin (cooked rice). If you eat the ulam between meals without rice, then you are engaged in papak.


There's nothing wrong in American culture if you eat fried chicken by itself, but Filipinos of the older generation expect you to eat fried chicken with rice while sitting down at the dinner table.


Huwag mong papakin ang manok!
