The Tagalog abbreviation n.g. is short for ng gabi.
ng gabi
“of the evening” = in the evening = “of night” = at night
This is the close in meaning to the English p.m. or PM (post meridiem) except that it’s for after dark only. To say PM when it’s noon or afternoon, use nt for ng tanghali (at noon) and nh (ng hapon) for afternoon.
6:00 n.g. = 6:00 pm
alas-sais ng gabi
six o’clock in the evening
alas-sais ng gabi
six o’clock in the evening
7:00 n.g. = 7:00 pm
alas-siyete ng gabi
seven o’clock in the evening
8:00 n.g. = 8:00 pm
alas-otso ng gabi
eight o’clock at night
9:00 n.g. = 9:00 pm
alas-nwebe ng gabi
nine o’clock at night
This Tagalog abbreviation is taught in schools but is rarely used. Filipinos prefer to follow English usage of P.M.
