MARTINIKO

martiniko
a fish known in English as the climbing perch

scientific name:  Anabas testudineus 

The martiniko fish is found mostly in lakes and ponds.  It buries itself under mud during dry season.  It is able to survive for several days  out of water if kept moist. The flesh of this fish is tasty but bony.  The martiniko is often sold alive in markets.


One way of preparing martiniko is as burong isda (salted fish with fermented rice). Remember to remove the scales.
