Visayan = from the Visayas, the central part of the Philippines consisting of many islands

The Visayan people call their own language Binisaya. Filipinos refer to it as Bisaya or Cebuano. This language is spoken as a first language not only in the Visayas but also on the large island of Mindanao down south. It is estimated that more than 20 million people speak Bisaya as a first language. It is the second most spoken language in the Philippines, after the Tagalog of the north.
