Tagalog Translation of The Poet

This is a Tagalog translation of the famous part of Kahlil Gibran's poem The Poet. It was translated as Ang Makata by Anceto F. Silvestre.

ORIGINAL ENGLISH LINES

He is a tree watered by the River of Beauty, bearing
Fruit which the hungry heart craves;

He is a nightingale, soothing the depressed
Spirit with his beautiful melodies;

. . .

He is a brilliant lamp, unconquered by darkness
And inextinguishable by the wind. It is filled with
Oil by Istar of Love, and lighted by Apollon of Music.

TAGALOG TRANSLATION

Siya’y isang punong dinidilig
ng ilog ng Karilagan, may
Bungang asam ng pusong gutom;

Siya’y isang ruisinyor,
inaaliw sa magaganda n’yang awit
Diwang tigib ng hapis;

. . .

Siya’y isang maningning na ilawan,
di-madaig ng karimlan
At di-mapatay ng hangin. Sinidlan ng
Langis ni Ishtar ng Pagsinta,
at sinindihan ni Apolo ng Musika.
