Famous Biracial Mestizos and Mestizas

A biracial child is frequently referred to as a mestizo (mestiso / mistiso) or mestiza (mestisa / mistisa) in the Philippines. Here are a few Filipino mistisos and mistisas  famous around the world:

Roshon Fegan is an American actor, singer, songwriter, rapper, and dancer best known for his role as Sander in the Disney Channel original film Camp Rock and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam and his upcoming lead role as Ty Blue in Shake it Up!  His mother is Filipino and his father is African American.


Baseball player Tim Lincecum's mother is the daughter of Filipino immigrants.


Raymond Townsend (December 20, 1955) is an American retired professional basketball player born in San Jose, California. His mother is Virginia Marella, a Filipina from Balayan, Batangas. His father is Ray Sr., an American. He was the first Filipino-American to play in the NBA, for the Golden State Warriors.


Erik Spoelstra is the current head coach of the National Basketball Association's Miami Heat. His father is Irish and his mother is a Filipina.

Myleene Klass was born in Norfolk, England, to a British/Austrian father and a Filipina mother. She made her West End theatre debut in the hit show Miss Saigon. In 2006, she starred in the UK presentation of The Vagina Monologues. In the United States, Klass is recognized as the co-host of the NBC reality series I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here! 


By coincidence, the winner on the 2009 season of that show was fellow biracial Lou Diamond Phillips! His late father was an American sailor and his mother Lucita is Filipina. Lou Diamond Philips first achieved wide fame for playing the role of Ritchie Valens in the 1987 movie La Bamba.


Latino singer Enrique Iglesias is of dual heritage -- his father is the Spanish singing legend Julio Iglesias and his mother the Manila-born Filipina socialite Isabel Preysler.

Vanessa Anne Hudgens is a biracial actress whose mother was born in the Philippines. Her most famous role  is that of Gabriella Montez in Disney's High School Musical series.


Darren Criss was born to a Filipino mother and an Irish-American father. He is famous for playing the role of Blaine, an openly gay student at Dalton Academy, in the second season of Glee.

Allan Pineda Lindo, popularly known as apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, is the child of an African American father and a Filipino mother. He was born in Angeles City in the Philippines. You can watch him rap in Filipino in the Bebot video.


Nicole (Valiente) Scherzinger is the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. She was born in  Honolulu to a Filipino father and a Hawaiian/Russian mother. Her father left when she was a baby and she has taken on the surname of her stepfather.


Former Miss Teen USA and current  TV host Vanessa Minnillo was born on a US base in the Philippines while her Italian-Irish father was serving in the Air Force. Her mother is Helen Bercero, a native of Pampanga province.
