Lamberto Avellana


Lamberto V Avellana (1915 – 1991) was a  Filipino  director who was prominent in the Filipino movie industry after World War II.


He was educated at Ateneo de Manila University and made his film debut with Sakay (1939) a biopic of Filipino revolutionary Macario Sakay.  His two most important words are the movies Anak Dalita (1956) and Badjao (1957).


In 1976, Lamberto Avellana was named by President Ferdinand Marcos as the very first National Artist of the Philippines for Film.


He was married to actress Daisy Hontiveros who was also later named a National Artist of the Philippines, for her work in theater.
